How Attached to Your Problem Are You?
Control
We all want it. We want to control our children, our job, our spouse, our friends, ourselves (I'm sure you can add to this list). I see you shaking your head at your iPhone or computer screen while reading this and thinking, "No I don't". Do you want things to go the way YOU want them? Do you think life would just be easier if everything fell into place the way you want them to? Do you feel you don't have enough hours in the day to get things put together, just right, all tied up in a nice bow and only then you can relax? Then you want to control. Admit it. No shame in it - welcome to one of the most normal of human bondages. To be set free from.
I Want What I Want When I Want It
Life consists of not getting what we want and getting what we don't want. What are you going to do about it? How do you react when life won't go YOUR way? Do you get more upset? Harley Storey, who recently wrote about acceptance, reiterated what I have repeatedly posed to you. By choosing to resist and be upset, frustrated, overwhelmed, enraged, stressed out.....you give all your power away and turn yourself into a victim of circumstance (which by the way, empowers only your negative energy which attracts what? Negativity).
Acceptance
After you've done what you can do......can you embrace the power, peace, and serenity that lies within acceptance? Storey writes, acceptance says, "by letting go of the way I think things should be, I free myself from attachment to my problems".
Feeling Up to a New Challenge?
Can you continue to show up, do your best work, be your best, and stay out of the outcome? Just for today? Practice. Be mindful of your thoughts as you practice this and write them down. Remember - baby steps. P.S. I would LOVE to hear what you think. Pros and Cons. Feel free to leave your thoughts. Photo credit: Matthew Henry from Unsplash
